Restoration Of The Apostles Office

Ephesians 2:20-22 “And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone:  In whom all the building fitly framed together growth unto an holy temple in the Lord:  In whom ye also are build together for an habitation of God through the Spirit .”

The word apostolic is not a theological perspective or a doctrinal viewpoint.  It is a functional word.  It is the function of those who are walking within the confines of apostolicity.  The apostolic ministry is probably the key to opening the secret of the kingdom of God in this particular hour.  It consists of the five-fold ministry: teaching, pastoring, evangelistic work, prophecy and apostle.

During the nineties, the apostolic thrust gave rise to ministry of reconciliation which is order, because an apostle’s role is to bring order.  The apostolic thrust also brought inner healing, tremendous deliverance to people and the anointing of the power of the Holy Spirit to bring government order, structure, vision, and strategy.

These are just some of the things that have been restored to the body of Christ.  The Holy Spirit not only brought  these things to the body through the apostolic release, but it also brought the breaking down of denominational walls.  Many apostles will be developed and raised up all over the world in the coming seasons to articulate and establish this  move  in their regions and nations.

Who is an Apostle?

The word apostle comes from several Greek terms and roots.  Its broadest meaning, the one most commonly given, is “a sent one, a specially commissioned messenger of Jesus Christ.”  Its prefix “apo” means “away from,” to describe a separation where a sharp severing has taken place.  “Apo” infers consecration from the masses to fulfill a commission.  The word apostle comes from the Greek apostello that means, “set apart to send out on a mission by liberating from previous obligations.”

In the strictest sense of the word, Ezra and Nehemiah, under King Cyrus, exemplify this. They were both occupying other positions. Yet when the king was inspired by God to restore Judaism, they were formally relieved of their duties to set out on the commission he ordained.  Apostles, like all of the five-fold, are a set aside group ordained for the purpose of setting forth the new covenant kingdom of Jesus Christ.

The Apostles Calling Is Not A Definition, It Is A Function

The primary function of the apostle is to teach the one true doctrine of Christ in its entirety, thus setting the foundation of truth within the heart of each believer. This is why apostles are called stewards of the mystery of Christ.

Apostles are stewards of the mystery of Christ

Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. (1Cor.4:1)

Apostles set the foundation of truth in the heart through instruction of doctrine

According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation [of truth within your heart], and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1Cor.3:10,11) Without Apostolic Governance this stewardship is lost to the church and Christians do not know how to walk and to please God. Evidence of this is seen in how holiness is falsely placed in the flesh and how believers have a hard time putting Christianity in action.

Apostles teach the church how to walk and to please God

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us [apostles] how ye ought to walk and to please God [the doctrine and tools of the second covenant], so ye would abound more and more [increase of grace and growth]. (1Thes.4:1)

So then, when apostles steward the mysteries of Christ they are setting the foundation of truth within the heart so believers know how to walk and please God.

There are those who think that if they discover the definition of an apostle they can discover the reality of spiritual government and walk in the apostolic by simply applying the precept of scripture and place themselves in the roll of fulfilling the scripture. But one must have the calling to experience the reality; the Spirit works with the calling, not apart from it. The precept of scripture does not create reality, the Spirit does.

The historical facts about apostles have an intellectual and emotional appeal, but cannot create the reality. Much like when watching the movie “The Ten Commandments”; it gives you a sense of participation with Moses and draws you into a state of involvement when in actuality, nothing is happening at all. Another good example of this is seen in Civil War reenactments. Knowledge about the Civil War is true, and one can act out certain parts of history, but that engagement does not translate into reality; it merely draws upon the imagination.

Well, church became such an event with believers trying to reenact the Bible and trying to reenact spiritual government. We understand that reading a book about grapes does not produce a vineyard, nor a bottle of wine. Yet people often memorize the fruit of the Spirit thinking they will experience that reality, only to realize that such is not the case. So too, memorizing the verses in Ephesians chapter 4 that speak about apostles and spiritual government does not bring the functionality of the calling to the church.

Satan knows that the soul has to function with knowledge, so he promotes knowledge that

people can comprehend intellectually and emotionally and promises the operation and

actuation of knowledge apart from Jesus’ covenant and apart from Jesus’ government,

truth, and Spirit. The engagement is a simulation of faith, but not the reality of faith.

A return to True Apostolic Governance is a Return to Truth

Ephesians 4: 11,12

11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;  12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

A Return to True Apostolic Governance is a Return to Truth!

By Apostle Ernest O Turner

It is of utmost importance that the Body of Christ return to true Apostolic Governance and come unto the knowledge of the truth, for truth prepares the heart to serve and worship God.

We all know John 4:23 and 24, that God is looking for them that will worship Him in spirit and in truth. We also now know that the Spirit will only testify of the truth (Jesus Christ). Therefore, if truth is absent from us, the Spirit will also be absent, having nothing to testify to; for the Spirit will not quicken what proceeds from man because it profits nothing (carries no substance of the life and righteousness of Christ) to the soul.

The Spirit will quicken faith and give understanding only through the truth (Jn.6:63), which is spiritually discerned (1Cor 2:14), and is why we must receive the Word of grace through the apostles’ doctrine (Eph 3:2-4). We cannot serve God with truth that is defiled for then faith is defiled and we are not worthy of Christ, as Jesus said, “Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy”(Rev.3:4).

To understand this better let’s look at the words of the prophet Haggai:

Haggai 2:12-14

12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

The Word of God is holy and Jesus’ shed blood for the forgiveness of sins is holy, but we cannot apply these to human aspiration and carnal tools of faith to make them holy. Equally important, when one embraces truth that is not from the headship of Christ, his heart takes confidence in the Gospel of the Flesh and every endeavor of faith is unclean, all the works of faith are unclean, and all he offers to God is unclean.

Returning to Apostolic Governance and truth that proceeds from the apostles office means that a cleansing has to take place. The soul that has been indoctrinated by the false teachings of men, must be cleansed by truth, for truth purges the soul (1Cor 5:7,8).

Faith that is acceptable to God comes by truth (Rom.10:17), by both hearing and obeying (Jas.1:22). How can believers obey the truth and be purified, if they have not received the cleansing of the truth (1Pet 1:22)? This is why God has restored the office and calling of apostles, those selected, ordained, called, and sent by God to preach the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ (1Cor 1:17), to open the eyes of believers that they might be sanctified in Christ (Acts 26:18) through obedience to His truth (Heb 5:9; 13:17) and build the kingdom of God upon the foundation of His truth as wise master builders.

Returning to Apostolic Governance and truth that proceeds from the apostles office means that a cleansing has to take place !!!

True Apostles

The True Apostle !

By Apostle Ernest O Turner

The meaning of the word apostles are the sent forth ones. It comes from the Greek I send and from and is essentially the same word apostolos as we use in English. The twelve disciples of the Gospels are the foundation apostles that stand as the pillars of the church. They were to “be with Jesus” and called to cast out demons. There are pillars of the church called to be  apostles today with the definite higher calling of the apostolic gift but the word apostle also includes anyone who has been sent by God for a special calling like missionaries or special emissaries. Paul, Barnabas and Silas all held the office of apostles “sent” by the Lord, as well as the disciples and many other New Testament persons. An apostle in any age is one that has been sent by God to help bring the church to maturity.

Today’s apostles are still being sent out from Jesus to carry His message. Apostles are numbered with the five-fold ministry of Ephesians 4 with the prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers until “we all come in the unity of the faith.” When you are sent, you go in the name of the One who sent you. When Jesus said to His disciples, “As my Father has sent me, even so I send you,” in Matthew 10:16, He was using the Greek word apostle. He used the same word apostle when He sent out the seventy in Luke 10.

Apostles break new ground, this is why they are listed first in I Corinthians 12: 28. The false five-fold will not see this as sent first but as ranked first in authority. The example of Paul is in I Corinthians 4: 9 and 10, “For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised.”

An apostle will set standards for the church according to divine mandate. This will include ground breaking ministries for sure but most commonly, God uses us as His special envoys. An apostolic calling today should be given to bring churches together more than establishing new ones. We don’t have to know that we are apostles to be sent.

Since the recognition of true apostles is found in the prophetic spirit, many fundamentalists and cults deny the existence of modern day apostles. True apostolic authority lies in the collective consciousness of true Holy Ghost ministries, establishing unity through us, as we all submit to the Lord. It is not subject to the heirarchy of church leadership.

The Jewish Sanhedrin had its apostles, and sent messengers with information to the various outlining communities. Paul was at first an emissary of the Sanhedrin, an apostolos, he later became an apostle for Jesus. The disciples that Jesus sent out door to door were apostles. In the everyday life of Greco-Roman world, an apostle was one sent to arrange a marriage or divorce or to deliver a legal decision.

Billy Graham uses the word apostle in three senses. First, apostleship is used in a general sense that all of us are sent into the world by Christ. The second uses are the messengers sent on particular errands. The third is the gift of apostleship.

Jesus is the One gathering His people together in these last days, to a unity that cannot be of any one ministry in any way except in the sense that we are the Body of Christ with Jesus as the Head and with us as members of His body. Jesus as the true shepherd is gathering us to Him by His spirit, no titles, no delineation, just obedience.

Some apostles mentioned in the New Testament are:

  • The Seventy (Luke 10:1, 3) Matthias (Acts 1:26)
  • James, the Lord’s brother (Gal. 1:19)
  • Paul (Acts 14:14)
  • Barnabas (Acts 14:4, 14; 1 Cor. 9:5 & 6)
  • Apollos (1 Cor. 4:6-9)
  • Andronicus (Rom. 16:7)
  • Junia (Rom. 16:7)
  • Epaphroditus (Phil. 2:25, {messenger is apostle in the Greek}
  • Titus (2 Cor. 8:23 {also messenger)
  • Unamed brother with Titus (2 Cor. 8:18, 23)
  • Timothy (1 Thess. 1:1, 2:6)
  • Silas/Silvanus (1 Thess. 1:1, 2:6)

Homosexuality: The Christian Perspective

Q. What is homosexuality?

Homosexuality is the manifestation of sexual desire toward a member of one’s own sex or the erotic activity with a member of the same sex. (The Greek word homos means the same). A lesbian is a female homosexual. More recently the term “gay” has come into popular use to refer to both sexes who are homosexuals.

Q. How does one determine if the practice of homosexuality is right or wrong?

That depends upon who is answering the question. The Christian point of view is based solely upon the Bible, the divinely inspired Word of God. A truly Christian standard of ethics is the conduct of divine revelation, not of statistical research nor of public opinion. For the Christian, the Bible is the final authority for both belief and behaviour.

Q. What explicitly does the Bible teach about homosexuality?

This question I consider to be basic because, if we accept God’s Word on the subject of homosexuality, we benefit from His adequate answer to this problem. I am concerned only with the Christian or biblical view of homosexuality. The Bible has much to say about sex sins in general.

First, there is adultery. Adultery in the natural sense is sexual intercourse of a married person with someone other than his or her own spouse. It is condemned in both the Old and New Testaments (Exodus 20:14; I Cor. 6:9, 10). Christ forbids dwelling upon the thoughts, the free play of one’s imagination that leads to adultery (Matthew 5:28).

Second, there is fornication, the illicit sex acts of unmarried persons which is likewise forbidden (I Corinthians 5:1; 6:13, 18; Ephesians 5:3).

Then there is homosexuality which likewise is condemned in Scripture. The Apostle Paul, writing by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares that homosexuality “shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9; 10). Now Paul does not single out the homosexual as a special offender. He includes fornicators, idolators, adulterers, thieves, covetous persons, drunkards, revilers and extortioners. And then he adds the comment that some of the Christians at Corinth had been delivered from these very practices: “And such were some of you: But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:11). All of the sins mentioned in this passage are condemned by God, but just as there was hope in Christ for the Corinthians, so is there hope for all of us.

Homosexuality is an illicit lust forbidden by God. He said to His people Israel, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:13). In these passages homosexuality is condemned as a prime example of sin, a sexual perversion. The Christian can neither alter God’s viewpoint nor depart from it.

In the Bible sodomy is a synonym for homosexuality. God spoke plainly on the matter when He said, “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel” (Deuteronomy 23:17). The whore and the sodomite are in the same category. A sodomite was not an inhabitant of Sodom nor a descendant of an inhabitant of Sodom, but a man who had given himself to homosexuality, the perverted and unnatural vice for which Sodom was known. Let us look at the passages in question:

But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house around, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:

And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. (Genesis 19:4‑8)

The Hebrew word for “know” in verse 5 is ya„da`, a sexual term. It is used frequently to denote sexual intercourse (Genesis 4:1, 17, 25; Matthew 1:24, 25). The message in the context of Genesis 19 is clear. Lot pled with the men to “do not so wickedly.” Homosexuality is wickedness and must be recognized as such else there is no hope for the homosexual who is asking for help to be extricated from his perverted way of life.

Q. You said that sexua1 intercourse outside of marriage is condemned in the Bible. How do you explain marriage ceremonies in which two persons of the same sex are united by an officiating clergyman or justice of the peace?

There are cases on record where a marriage license was issued to persons of the same sex. I recall one such incident in Phoenix, Arizona. A marriage license was issued in the Maricopa County clerk’s office to two men 39 and 21 years old respectively. The two men are reported to have “married” in a private ceremony.

However, to call a union of two persons of the same sex a “marriage” is a misnomer. In the Bible, marriage is a divinely ordered institution designed to form a permanent union between one man and one woman for one purpose (among others) of procreating or propagating the human race. That was God’s order in the first of such unions (Genesis 1:27, 28; 2:24; Matthew 19:5). If, in His original creation of humans, God had created two persons of the same sex, there would not be a human race in existence today. The whole idea of two persons of the same sex marrying is absurd, unsound, ridiculously unreasonable, stupid. A clergyman might bless a homosexual marriage but God won’t.

Q. A Jesuit Priest, John J. McNeill, reportedly said in a conference (Christianity Today, June 3, 1977), “There is no clear condemnation of homosexual activity to be found anywhere in the Bible.” How does a church leader arrive at such a conclusion?

This particular Jesuit priest, like some other supposedly Christian theologians, have totally ignored the Scriptures as the guidelines for Christian behaviour in regard to homosexuality. McNeill does not speak for the Roman Catholic Church, but for a small segment of priests who, having vowed themselves to celibacy, that is, to abstain from marriage and sexual intercourse, have found sexual gratification in homosexual acts.

However, religious sex perverts are plentiful among protestants. Protestant leaders on both sides of the Atlantic have gradually eased away from the Scriptures. In England men like Bishop John Robinson, in his book Honest to God made a play on the term “The New Morality,” which in reality was a plea to open the door to immorality making it respectable and thus acceptable. The Bishop went so far as to describe the unscriptural adulterous relationship as “a kind of holy communion.” This modern concept of Christian ethics rejects totally the precepts laid down by God in His Word. It is blasphemous and atheistic.

Recently in America ten homosexually oriented religious organizations, comprised of men and women from more than a dozen denominations, and from seventeen states and Canada, met at Kirkbridge, a retreat and study center near Bangor, Pennsylvania. The retreat was entitled, “Gay and Christian.” But the two terms, “gay” and “Christian” are mutually exclusive, incompatible, incongruous.

Representing the women at that retreat, Nancy Krody a lesbian, spoke on “The Lesbian Christian Experience.” Here again is a misnomer. A practicing Christian, from the biblical viewpoint, will not be a practicing homosexual. Of course, I make the distinction between a professing Christian and a practicing Christian. Calling one’s self a Christian does not make one a Christian.

Malcolm Boyd speaks about “The Gay Male Christian Experience.” Boyd, a protestant clergyman, says he has been a homosexual secretly for years. Only recently he made a public announcement of his homosexuality. He claims that his public announcement of his homosexuality has brought him back to the church. Boyd does not tell us what he means by the “church”!

Following is one point on which the speakers at Kirkbridge agreed: “A monogamous homosexual relationship characterized by fidelity, honesty and love is possible, desirable, and honoring to God.”

Any evil condemned in Scripture cannot be honoring to God. Homosexual religious leaders attempt to smooth over the breaks and rough places with Christian terminology so that a euphoria predominates, but God is not in it. A truly born again person, who loves and understands the Bible as God’s revelation to him, will not condone an evil that God condemns. “If ye know that He is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of Him” (I John 2:29). “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity” (II Timothy 2:19). Practicing homosexuals are engaged in a divinely forbidden evil.

Q. Why do homosexuals refer to themselves as “gay”?

The word “gay” means merry, exuberant, bright, lively. More recently it has been adopted by homosexuals. In its original use it did not have this double meaning. The clever adaptation of the word “gay” by homosexuals has robbed it of its pure meaning, thereby corrupting a once perfectly good word. I never use the word “gay” when referring to homosexuals. There are many bright, exuberant, merry people in this world who are not sexual perverts.

Q. You made reference to First Corinthians 6:9‑11. What is the meaning of the word “effeminate” in verse 9?

There are certain words in every language that can be used in a good or bad sense. In the context of this verse the use of “effeminate” is obviously in a bad sense. It is listed among other evils which are condemned. It describes feminine qualities inappropriate to a man. It is normal and natural for a woman to be sexually attracted to a man; it is abnormal and unnatural for a man to be sexually attracted to another man. Many male homosexuals are effeminate, but not all. Nor are all lesbians unduly masculine.

Q. Are there other Scriptures in the New Testament which deal with homosexuality?

Yes. Romans 1:24‑27; I Timothy 1:10 and Jude 7. If one takes these Scriptures seriously, homosexuality will be recognized as an evil. The Romans passage is unmistakably clear. Paul attributes the moral depravity of men and women to their rejection of “the truth of God” (1:25). They refused “to retain God in their knowledge” (1:28), thereby dethroning God and deifying themselves. The Old Testament had clearly condemned homosexuality but in Paul’s day there were those persons who rejected its teaching. Because of their rejection of God’s commands He punished their sin by delivering them over to it.

The philosophy of substituting God’s Word with one’s own reasoning commenced with Satan. He introduced it at the outset of the human race by suggesting to Eve that she ignore God’s orders, assuring her that in so doing she would become like God with the power to discern good and evil (Genesis 3:1‑5). That was Satan’s big lie. Paul said that when any person rejects God’s truth, his mind becomes “reprobate,” meaning perverted, void of sound judgment. The perverted mind, having rejected God’s truth, is not capable of discerning good and evil.

In Romans 1:26‑31 twenty‑three punishable sins are listed with homosexuality leading the list. Paul wrote, “For this cause God gave them up into vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet” (Romans 1:26, 27). These verses are telling us that homosexuals suffer in their body and personality the inevitable consequences of their wrong doing. Notice that the behaviour of the homosexual is described as a “vile affection” (1:26). The Greek word translated “vile” (atimia) means filthy, dirty, evil, dishonourable. The word “affection” in Greek is pathos, used by the Greeks of either a good or bad desire. Here in the context of Romans it is used in a bad sense. The “vile affection” is a degrading passion, a shameful lust. Both the desire (lusting after) and the act of homosexuality are condemned in the Bible as sin.

Q. There are those persons who say that homosexuality, even though a perverted form of the normal, God‑ordained practice of sex, is a genetic problem, constitutionally inherited. Is there evidence to support this view?

I read in a periodical that in June, 1963 a panel of specialists in medicine, psychiatry, law, sociology and theology participated in a conference on homosexuality called by the Swiss Evangelical Church Union. That group reached the conclusion that homosexuality is not constitutionally inherited, it is not a part of one’s genetic makeup. The ill-founded and unverifiable myth that homosexuality results from genetic causes is gradually fading away.

There are possibly a number of different ways in which homosexual practices could begin. When boys and girls reach puberty and the genital organs develop, it is not uncommon for boys to experiment with boys, and girls with girls. In prisons where men and women are denied access to persons of the opposite sex for long periods of time, some are introduced to homosexuality for the first time.

A young Christian woman came to our office in Detroit for counseling. She became involved in lesbianism when her marriage began to fail. She was introduced to her first homosexual experience by a divorcee who was her neighbor. After six months of practicing lesbianism she was convicted of her sin and sought help. We were able to show her from the Bible that she was sinning and that God stood ready and willing to forgive and cleanse her. She confessed and forsook her sin, and continues to this day to live a happy, normal Christian life.

Homosexuality must be accepted for what God says it is– sin. Some homosexuals will attempt to circumvent the plain teaching of the Bible with the insipid reply that they are the way God made them. There is not the slightest bit of evidence in Scripture to support this false concept. God never created man with a so‑called “homosexual need.” No baby is born a homosexual. Every baby is born male or female. In every place the Bible refers to homosexuality, the emphasis is upon the perversion of sexuality. The practicing homosexual is guilty of “leaving the natural use of the woman” (Romans 1:27), meaning that his behaviour is “against nature” as in the case of the lesbian (Romans 1:26). Inasmuch as homosexuality is opposed to the regular law and order of nature, the genetic concept must be ruled out completely. If homosexuality were a genetic problem, there would be little hope for the homosexual simply because there is no way that the genes in a person can be changed.

Q. Are there contributing factors to homosexuality for which a homosexual might not be responsible?

Yes, I believe there are. I have not done much research in this area, however, studies made by others showed varied deviations from the average or normal parent‑child relationship. For example, clinical cases show that some homosexuals have not had a normal or natural relationship with the parent of the same sex. In some instances there has been a wide gap between father and son. There are those boys who have been neglected by their unaffectionate fathers. The boy who has not had a good and wholesome relationship with his father could have an unfulfilled need for a father relationship with a man. Now that need will not start out as a sexual one, but there are cases on record in which the sexual relationship has developed. I know one case of a homosexual adult who seduced a 13 year old boy whose father had forsaken him. Before the boy’s contact with the older man he had no knowledge whatever of homosexuality. The older man seduced the boy.

Lesbianism has been known to follow this same pattern. Some mother‑daughter relationships are not conducive to a normal social and sexual development. One young woman came to her pastor seeking help. She had gotten involved with a lesbian in the community where she lived, a woman twenty‑one years her senior. The girl’s parents had a defective marriage which ended in divorce when the daughter was ten years old. Her mother became bitter and resentful against all men. She convinced her daughter that men were not to be trusted, and that man’s one goal was to exploit women sexually. The daughter grew up with a fear of men, a fear totally unwarranted. She was an easy victim of the seductive older lesbian. The good and wise pastor showed the counselee from the Bible that homosexuality was sinful and that God condemned it. She confessed her sin to God and received Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. Today she is happily married to a fine Christian man.

Q. Do you believe that the homosexual controversy is causing problems for the churches of America?

Evil in any form is a problem in the church. It always has been. The greater problem, however, is the church’s failure to discipline evil when it arises. Karl Menninger’s book, Whatever Became of Sin?, deals directly with that point. There are ministers, priests, and rabbis who never talk about sin. There was a time when the minister of God’s Word preached the whole counsel of God. Today many pulpits are silent on the sin question. Sin has become fashionable and therefore acceptable. When sin gets its victim into serious difficulty, the psychiatrist and psychologist tell him he is sick. The church must face the fact of sin squarely.

Q. Does the Bible tell us how the church should deal with sexual sins?

In Old Testament times in Israel God dealt severely with homosexuals. He warned His people through Moses, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:13). Every Jew knew that homosexuality was an abomination, a disgusting practice to be loathed, hated. This was God’s attitude toward that evil practice. He hated it to the extent that He considered it worthy of punishment by death. Now God loved His people Israel dearly, and it was from His great heart of love that He chastened them. The Epistle to the Hebrews says, “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth” (Hebrews 12:7). When God issued His law forbidding homosexuality, and the punishment for those persons who violated that law, He did so in order to prevent them from sinning. However, when anyone broke the law, the offender paid the penalty due him. God is a holy God who hates and judges sin. Parents who love their children will not refrain from warning them of prevailing evils, nor will they fail to chasten them when they disobey. The church today not only tolerates sin but in some instances condones it. God does neither.

In the New Testament the principle of discipline was applied with apostolic authority. In the church at Corinth the young man who was committing fornication with his step‑mother was excommunicated. Paul instructed the church to take that action “in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ . . . and with the power (i.e. the authority) of our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Corinthians 5:1‑8). In Romans 1:21‑32 where Paul shows the Gentile world in its downward plunge into sin, including the sin of homosexuality, verse 32 concludes with the words, “who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death . . . ” Worthy of death, yes. But today we are not under law but under grace. People used to hear and heed the Gospel‑truth, the message that God is holy, man is a sinner, and that through faith in the substitutionary death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, sinful people can be born again and thereby delivered from the guilt and penalty and practice of their sins.

Q. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for the church?

Nothing is more foundationally essential for the church and the world than a return to the truth. Recently I read where someone said we are suffering from a famine of the worst kind, “a truth‑famine.” Our modern culture is in a degenerating, deteriorating stage caused by a departure from the truth. And I must say unequivocally that truth does not exist independently of God, and His written Word the Bible, and His Son Jesus Christ. Truth is in no sense of man’s imagination or contrivance. Man in his fallen state does not know truth, and that is why he continues to go on sinning. A civilization without the truth is doomed to oblivion. Every ancient civilization that ignored God and His laws has crumbled. Our present civilization is well on the road to doom. We cannot survive independently of God and His Word.

The Church must return to the truth, the whole truth, the sum total of truth founded and grounded upon Him Who said, “I am the truth” (John 14:6). In our Lord’s high priestly prayer for His own He prayed, “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy Word is truth” (John 17:17). There must be in our churches the clear exposition of the Scriptures and a continuing exaltation of the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ if our civilization is to be saved from the disasters that overcame past civilizations. Any civilization with a philosophy or a doctrine which denies the real truth cannot survive.

Q. Do you see any prophetic significance in the recent homosexual upsurge?

Yes, I do. However, I would suggest caution on this point. It is not uncommon for preachers to attach a prophetic meaning to every earthquake, riot, war, moral scandal or political disaster, labeling all such events as “signs of the times.”

The modern homosexual upsweep is one phase of a declining trend in morals. When the disciples asked our Lord, “What shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the consummation of the age?” He told them that “iniquity shall abound” (Matthew 24:3, 12). There is today a permissiveness and a promiscuity in sexual behaviour unprecedented in the history of America. There is little restraint upon the widespread of material containing pictures and writing depicting erotic behaviour intended to cause sexual excitement. This would be included in our Lord’s prophecy about abounding iniquity.

There is also a prophetic statement in Paul’s Second Epistle to Timothy which has some bearing upon the subject we are discussing. Paul said, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection . . . ” (II Timothy 3:1‑3). Homosexuality is an unnatural affection, practiced by persons “that defile themselves with mankind” (I Timothy 1:10), translated in the New American Standard Version “homosexuals,” and in the New International Version, “perverts.” I conclude, in the light of these Scriptures, that the rise of homosexuality is very definitely a trend which indicates the approaching end of the age.

Q. Do you attach any significance to the age factor ?

Yes, I do. I see a potential threat to young people who are exposed to homosexuals. Older practicing homosexuals are a threat to the youth.

Q. Do you care to make any comments on the Anita Bryant crusade in Dade County, Florida?

In my judgment Anita Bryant was justified in the action she pursued. She did not want her children exposed to the influence of a practicing homosexual in the public school classroom. Inasmuch as homosexuality is classified in the Bible as an evil, to insist that children be exposed to homosexual teachers in the public schools would be an infringement upon the rights of parents and their children. Under no condition would I permit my children to be subjected to the influence of a sex pervert. As an American citizen I consider that choice to be my right. Anita Bryant laid her career on the line in the bold and courageous stand she took. She should not have to fight the battle alone. Christians should support her.

Q. What should be the Christian’s attitude toward the homosexual?

We must always keep before us the fact that homosexuals, like all of us sinners, are the objects of God’s love. The Bible says, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus Christ “is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (I John 2:2). The Christian who shares God’s love for lost sinners will seek to reach the homosexual with the gospel of Christ, which “is the power of God unto salvation, to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16). As a Christian I should hate all sin but I can find no justification for hating the sinner. The homosexual is a precious soul for whom Christ died. We Christians can show him the best way of life by pointing him to Christ. Our Lord said, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). We are obligated to take the gospel to all.

Q. How can we help Christians who get involved in the practice of homosexuality?

We can help them by seeking to draw their attention to what God says in His Word. In a kind and loving spirit we can show them that they are wrong. However, the homosexual must admit to the fact that he is living in sin and that he has the desire to be made free from it. Without a genuine conviction of God’s displeasure and a strong desire to do God’s will, there is no hope. A truly born again person cannot continue to practice sin without reaping the results of miserable unhappiness brought on by loss of fellowship with God, the fear of retribution and the anxiety produced by guilt. The homosexual must ask himself, “Is the temporary gratification of the flesh worth all the penalty and losses I must suffer?”

True Prophets vs. False Prophets – How Can You Tell Them Apart?

True Prophets vs. False Prophets, How Can You Tell Them Apart?

What is a prophet? A prophet is a person who receives a prophecy, message from God, and then communicates that message to others. A divinely inspired message is always direct, specific, and tells exactly what will happen, to whom, and precisely what people should do. Moreover, a true prophecy from God always comes true in every detail. Predictions that “mostly” come true are not good enough.  A true prophet is 100% accurate !

Two opposite forces operate in our world: the good force and the evil force. The good force is lead by the one and only true God Almighty, whose personal name is Jehovah; His Son Jesus Christ, our Messiah; and the Holy Spirit, which is God’s active force that He uses to perform every and any miraculous sign. Angels also belong to this good group, as they do the will of Jehovah both in the heavens and on Earth.

The evil force is run by Satan, the devil, and his demons, which were originally good angels who chose to rebel against God. Many people laugh at the idea of demons, dismissing them merely as part of children’s ghosts stories. But demons are no laughing matter; they’re real, and unless we take them seriously, we will fall victim to their schemes. These evil spirits’ purpose is to go against God in every way, so it is important to know their tactics lest we are deceived. And one of their tactics is imitating God’s prophets and prophecies.

How can you tell a true prophet of God from the false prophet of Satan? The below basic guidelines will assist your discernment:

• True prophets always speak in God’s name with the authority given by God. False prophets speak in a name other than Jehovah’s. This is the first and foremost test whether a prophet is from God or Satan. If someone cannot pass this test, there’s no other reason to go on to the other tests.

True prophecies, as mentioned, always come true exactly as they are told. False prophecies, on the other hand, do not come true, even if they are spoken in God’s name.

Some prophecies may appear to be fulfilled when they are told in an ambiguous way. For instance, if I say, “A dog will bark in two hours,” and a dog does bark two hours later, does that make me a true prophet? No, because I did not indicate a specific dog. What I predicted could have spoken by anyone. A true message from God would have named a specific dog, giving no doubt to whether the prophecy had come true when it did indeed come true.

• True prophets exhibit godly qualities: true love, peace, joy, longsuffering, faith, goodness, gentleness, meekness, and temperance, which are the fruit of the Holy Spirit working in believers. (Read Galatians 5:22-23 in your Bible.) True prophets do good works and speak good words. False prophets do not possess this good nature. Even though Satan and the demons can perform miracles, they do not imitate God’s good qualities, so this is one of the best ways to differentiate the true from the false prophets.

• True prophets glorify God through their words, action, and any supernatural signs they perform. They credit Jehovah for the power they receive. False prophets glorify spirits other than God.

• True prophets lead people to God and His teachings. False  prophets do not.

Since false prophets (also known as fortune-tellers, mediums, and psychics) have powers from Satan, Jehovah God strictly forbids people to be psychics and mediums:

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or who uses divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, Or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and it is because of these abominable practices that the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless [and absolutely true] to the Lord your God. For these nations whom you shall dispossess listen to soothsayers and diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do so.” (Deuteronomy 18.10-14, Amplified Bible)

“You shall not eat anything with the blood; neither shall you use magic, omens, or witchcraft [or predict events by horoscope or signs and lucky days].” (Leviticus 19.26)

“Turn not to those [mediums] who have familiar spirits or to wizards; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19.31)

“A man or woman who is a medium and has a familiar spirit or is a wizard shall surely be put to death, be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.” (Leviticus 20.27)

False prophets will not be a part of God’s Kingdom after resurrection: “But as for the cowards and the ignoble and the contemptible and the cravenly lacking in courage and the cowardly submissive, and as for the unbelieving and faithless, and as for the depraved and defiled with abominations, and as for murderers and the lewd and adulterous and the practicers of magic arts and the idolaters (those who give supreme devotion to anyone or anything other than God) and all liars (those who knowingly convey untruth by word or deed)–[all of these shall have] their part in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21.8)

We have no need for Satanic powers and fortunetelling abilities, for every person who puts trust in Jesus will be able to personally connect with God, without needing a middleman, besides Jesus, God’s Son; Jesus is the only mediator we need.

Jesus specifically said, “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7.21) Thus, if we want to reflect the goodness of God, we must do God’s will to the best of our ability. Jehovah said, “Ye shall be holy; for I Jehovah your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19.2, ASV) So if we desire to serve Him and reflect His goodness, we must be holy, and the way to be holy is do what He says and conform to His standards, not our own standards.

False Prophets

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.” 21 you may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

When a false prophet is caught he will say “OK. But I’ve repented and the LORD has restored me to the office of the prophet or ‘The Prophetic’. You have to obey me again now.”
This is why the LORD said you shall never be afraid of (listen to) him again. Yes, the LORD will forgive him if he repents. He may become a fine Bible teacher. The LORD is merciful, so that you will not be constantly fooled by false prophets, Because He will never use him in that way again.

This is for your protection. Anyone who is not 100% accurate and claims to be a prophet or work in ‘the Prophetic’ is nothing more than Sounding Brass & a Tinkling Symbol, (Beware).

This is why the prophet Jonah was so upset. see Jonah 3:10-4:11. He prophesied Nineveh’s destruction but then God was merciful and relented. Since it did not come to pass right then that means the LORD would never use him again in the prophetic office. God’s response was if you lost you ministry and thousands of lives were spared wouldn’t that be worth it?

1 Timothy 6:20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge.

Jeremiah 23:16-40 warns of people who say “thus Says the LORD” and interpret or “prophesy something the LORD has not spoken.” They are “deluding you” and speak “out of their own minds, not from the LORD.” They “prophesy lies, and deceit of their own heart and steal my words from one another.” God says “I am against those who lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when I did not send them or appoint them” (NRSV)

Ezekiel 13:1-14:9 …to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: 3 Thus says the Lord GOD, Alas for the senseless prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! 6 They have envisioned falsehood and lying divination; they say, “Says the LORD,” when the LORD has not sent them. 9 My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations; 19 You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death persons who should not die …who listen to lies. Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, and you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from their wicked way and save their lives; 23 therefore you shall no longer see false visions or practice divination; I will save my people from your hand. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Ezekiel 14:9 If a prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the LORD, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him…10 And they shall bear their punishment—the punishment of the inquirer and the punishment of the prophet shall be the same. (NRSV)

These are the ones who sincerely think God is speaking through them, but it is really their imagination. They do more harm than good. Misusing God’s name in this way is breaking the 3rd commandment. See Exodus 20:7 Notice also that the ones seeking after those prophets will be punished just as severely as the prophets themselves.

Deuteronomy 13:1- 3,5 If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, 2 and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. 5 That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against the LORD your God… he has tried to turn you from the way the LORD your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.

1 Kings 22
400 false prophets tell Ahab to go to battle and the LORD will make him victorious.
Micaiah, the true prophet, who speaks only what the LORD tells him, says in his vision The LORD allowed a lying spirit to go in to the mouths of the prophets to lead Ahab to battle so he would be killed.

1 Kings 13
God sent a prophet from Judah to rebuke Jereboam. The Word of the LORD said not to eat or drink anything in the land of Israel , just rebuke then go home to Judah and not go back. An old prophet heard of it and went to Judah and found the Young prophet and asked him to come back and fellowship, eat and drink. The young prophet told him why he could not. Then the old prophet said an angel appeared and told him to go get the young prophet and bring him back, but this was a lie. The young prophet believed the old prophet and went back with him. The LORD said because he did this he would die. On the way back home the young prophet was killed by a lion. Just because someone, even a true prophet, says “the LORD said” or “an angel told me” does not mean he is not lying or has not deceived himself. Always check: #1. What is said with the scriptures. To do this you must know its teaching by heart. #2. By what God has already told you. This is not a game. Your life depends on what you know and how you act. The prophet Hosea said we parish because of the lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

In Acts 16-18 We find a woman prophesying the truth, in yet Paul knew she was demonic. Its not what she said but the fruit it would have brought.

Jesus said:
Matthew 7:15-23 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Paul said:
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

A Pastor’s Heart

Whenever we speak of the Pastor’s heart, we normally think of a person who has a genuine calling on their life to shepherd a flock of God’s people. We would normally think of them as having a gentle spirit, one who has the spirit of being able to sit with a person and listen to them unfold their lives. We find them to be able to counsel a person one on one or the whole congregation from the pulpit. We would hope he would be a person who could be trusted with confidential information. We would see him as a leader of the church who has the ability to guide and to teach with all biblical absolutes and one who is not owned and operated by a certain group or persons in the church and that he would be unbiased in his decisions. We would also expect him to respond to a crisis or commiserate in sadness. We would also expect him to be a man who would aptly teach the Word of God. So basically, this is how we would normally structure our view on what a pastor should be like.

The question now arises, is there any phase or phases of pastoral leadership which have been left out or neglected? I believe there are some very important characteristics which have been eluded when considering the heart of the pastor. These characteristics have long been put out to pasture resulting in the death of the true church.

(1 Sam 17:34-36 KJV) And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: {35} And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. {36} Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

(1 Pet 5:8 KJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

(Rev 13:2 KJV) And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

(Prov 28:15 KJV) As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

Here in these four verses we find that a lion and a bear refer to Satan and his emissaries as they come against the church of Christ. In the Samuel passage we see that when David was tending his father’s sheep when both a lion and bear took one of the lambs out of the flock to devour it. We see that David went right after the lion and bear, which would be risking his own life, to retrieve that lamb from the jaws of death.

Now let us look at the spiritual meaning of that passage which would be of great interest to us. First, we look at the lamb. The lamb would be representing a believer. (Luke 10:3 KJV) Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. We see that the Lord Jesus Christ views His children as lambs. We see that term “father’s sheep.” This term would represent the position of the believer that we belong to God the Father. We also see that both the bear and the lion represent Satan who comes against the church. David would also represent the Lord Jesus Christ here in that He went after Satan to retrieve His elect from the kingdom of Satan. Should the pastor of a local congregation do any less?

These passages give us some good insight as to what a shepherd or pastor should be doing. I want to give some other duties which the pastor must do to keep his flock intact. If these duties are avoided then the pastor has proven he is just another hand-picked, valueless, establishment pastor who is in it for the free ride.

“If a sheep stray from the flock, the shepherd sets his dog after it, not to devour it, but to bring it in again; even so our Heavenly Shepherd.” -Daniel Cawdray

Biblical Instructor

(Acts 20:27 KJV) For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

A true pastor is supposed to be one who is a good biblical instructor not fearing the congregation when he wants to or needs to speak on a certain subject. He is to proclaim the full counsel of God which means he is to teach as strongly on hell as well as heaven, the holiness of God as well as the love of God. He is to teach all aspects of Scripture and is not to shun any part nor skip passages of Scripture unless, in all honesty, he has not done a full study and would be speculating. He is to teach from the Scriptures alone and not adulterate the teachings with outside sources such as theology books, theologians, magazines, or other publications. He is to compare Scripture with Scripture. He should also be using a King James Version, since it is the best version. The modern versions just engender confusion especially when you have ten different versions in one congregation.

Protector

(Acts 20:29 KJV) For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

We saw in our passages from 1 Samuel 17 that when the bear and lion came into the flock that David was keeping, he immediately went after those beasts with the job of freeing the lamb and bringing it back to safety. The pastor must have the same mindset in protecting his flock. He must be vigilant in protecting his flock from false gospels coming into the church. If a person comes into the church with some type of false gospel, then he needs to address it immediately. The best way to protect his flock from the incursion of false gospels is to escort the person out and in this way the false gospel will have been expunged. If he does not deal with it immediately, then the poison will spread and there will eventually be a divided congregation which will lead to a great church upheaval and a church split. 2 different gospels cannot survive inside the same building. I know this from experience. The problem is too many pastors sacrifice truth for the sake of the phony love being propagated in the church. Would you let a bank robber in your house with a gun and say he is welcome because you love him? Then why would you want a soul stealer in your church with a false gospel? Protect your sheep at all cost because this is your calling.

Battle worthy

(Deu 20:1 KJV) When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Every true pastor will realize that the battle against truth comes from two places: Outside the church and inside the church. The pastor is one who must be prepared for the battle which WILL come against him but in reality it is against Christ and the church. He is not to acquiesce but is to remain firm in the truth even if it means some will leave the church. The minute a compromise is made, there begins a breach in the strength of the church. For a pastor to be battle worthy he must be strong and remain strong in the Scriptures.

Fearless

(Jer 1:8 KJV) Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

As David did not fear the bear and the lion, the pastor must not fear the power brokers, the cliques, or the good givers in the church. When the pastor encounters a problem in the church, he must face that problem no matter who is doing it. There can be no respecter of persons. All should be equal. When you look at a herd of sheep, what do you notice? The first thing I notice is that they all look alike. Some may have imperfections, some may be smaller or larger but nevertheless they all look alike. This is how the congregation must look to the pastor, none are more or less important than the other, no matter who they are. Remember, all God’s children are precious and of equal value to Him and are to be treated equally by the pastor. Playing favorites is an abomination unto the Lord.

Pursuer

(Mat 18:12 KJV) How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

How many times have you seen people leave a church and the pastor and elders do nothing about it except say oh well, let them go. The true pastor will investigate as to why a person wants to leave the church and will even go to their home. Maybe something is happening in the church that the pastor does not know about. When a person leaves the church it is a serious matter and an indictment against that assembly if the person left for legitimate reasons. The pastor must go after the sheep as the one who lost the 1 and left the 99. There may be a misunderstanding and if it is not addressed, bad feelings will be generated and an atmosphere of acrimony will arise. Whatever the reason or excuse a person gives for leaving, it should be addressed by the pastor for further edification and to be able to identify the problem and head it off at the pass if it happens again.

Not Afraid to Discipline

(Mat 18:15 KJV) Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

There should be no fear on the pastor’s part to do unbiased discipline in the church. I use the word unbiased because the pastor and elders should not only admonish the one in poor clothing but also the one in the $400 suit who sits up front. If a person needs to be disciplined, then it must be done not only for the person’s spiritual benefit but as an example to others in the church. There is no church discipline anymore and this is why we have such free thinking congregations with multiple gospels inside the four walls. If discipline is initiated at the point an infraction is discovered it saves the person and congregation much heartache.

Summary

(Jer 10:21 KJV) For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

The word “brutish” means irrational or stupid.” There are many churches out there under the condemnation of God because the leadership has chosen to do things the way of the world instead of leading the church in a biblical manner. The heart of the true pastor will always seek the way of the Lord and allow the Bible to be their guide. When a pastor deals with his congregation in an equal manner towards all, there is a good chance that church will be a faithful church unless it is founded on a false gospel. In that case then, it doesn’t matter what they do. They are founded on sand. When a pastor allows 2 gospels to remain inside a single church, they have become brutish and has total disregard for the truth and that means they do not possess the true pastor’s heart. There is much more to being a pastor than just walking around with a smile and appeasing everyone. God requires him to be walking and leading in truth. If they do not, they should be fired. If you run a business and have an employee which is not performing the duties they were hired to do, you get rid of them. The modern church is the only entity on earth that rewards faithlessness with a raise, car, and a house.

Leadership

Some modern church leaders fancy themselves businessmen, media figures, entertainers, psychologists, philosophers, or lawyers. Those notions contrast sharply with the way Scripture portrays spiritual leaders.

In 2 Timothy 2, for example, Paul uses seven different metaphors to describe the rigors of leadership. He pictures the minister as a teacher (v. 2), a soldier (v. 3), an athlete (v. 5), a farmer (v. 6), a workman (v. 15), a vessel (vv. 20-21), and a slave (v. 24). All those images evoke ideas of sacrifice, labor, service, and hardship. They speak eloquently of the complex and varied responsibilities of spiritual leadership. Not one of them makes leadership out to be glamorous.

That’s because it is not supposed to be glamorous. Leadership in the church–and I’m speaking of every facet of spiritual leadership, not just the pastor’s role–is not a mantle of status to be conferred on the church’s aristocracy. It isn’t earned by seniority, purchased with money, or inherited through family ties. It doesn’t necessarily fall to those who are successful in business or finance. It isn’t doled out on the basis of intelligence or talent. Its requirements are blameless character, spiritual maturity, and above all, a willingness to serve humbly.

Our Lord’s favorite metaphor for spiritual leadership, a figure He often used to describe Himself, was that of a shepherd–one who tends God’s flock. Every church leader is a shepherd. The word pastor itself means “shepherd.” It is appropriate imagery. A shepherd leads, feeds, nurtures, comforts, corrects, and protects. Those are responsibilities of every churchman.

Shepherds are without status. In most cultures, shepherds occupy the lower rungs of society’s ladder. That is fitting, for our Lord said, “Let him who is the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as the servant” (Luke 22:26).

Under the plan God has ordained for the church, leadership is a position of humble, loving service. Church leadership is ministry, not management. Those whom God designates as leaders are called not to be governing monarchs, but humble slaves; not slick celebrities, but laboring servants. Those who would lead God’s people must above all exemplify sacrifice, devotion, submission, and lowliness.

Jesus Himself gave us the pattern when He stooped to wash His disciples’ feet, a task that was customarily done by the lowest of slaves (John 13). If the Lord of the universe would do that, no church leader has a right to think of himself as a bigwig.

Shepherding animals is semi-skilled labor. There are no colleges that offer graduate degrees in shepherding. It isn’t that difficult a job. Even a dog can be trained to guard a flock of sheep. In biblical times, young boys–David, for example–herded sheep while the older men did tasks that required more skill and maturity.

Shepherding a spiritual flock is not so simple. It takes more than an unskilled laborer to be a spiritual shepherd. The standards are high, the requirements hard to satisfy (1 Timothy 3:1- 7). Not everyone can meet the qualifications, and of those who do, few seem to excel at the task. Spiritual shepherdology demands a godly, gifted, multi-skilled man of integrity. Yet he must maintain the humble perspective and demeanor of a boy shepherd.

With the tremendous responsibility of leading God’s flock comes the potential for either great blessing or great judgment. Good leaders are doubly blessed (1 Timothy 5:17), and poor leaders are doubly chastened (v. 20), for “from everyone who has been given much, much will be required” (Luke 12:48). James 3:1 says, “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.”

Here is the prescription for a healthy church: “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4). How are God’s people to minister to each other? By seeking to honor other people and meet their needs. If the people of a church are fighting for positions of authority, there will be the same kind of chaos as among the disciples when they were arguing over who would be the greatest (Matt. 20:20-28; Mark 9:33-37; Luke 22:24-30).

As Apostles, Bishops, and Pastors, we must lead our people humbly. The

Halloween Origins and Customs

History traces Halloween back to the ancient religion of the Celtics in Ireland. The Celtic people were very conscious of the spiritual world and had their own ideas of how they could gain access to it – such as by helping their over 300 gods to defeat their enemies in battle, or by imitating the gods in showing cleverness and cunning. Their two main feasts were Beltane at the beginning of summer (May 1), and Samhain (pronounced Sahween) at the end of summer (Nov. 1). They believed Samhain was a time when the division between the two worlds became very thin, when hostile supernatural forces were active and ghosts and spirits were free to wander as they wished. “During this interval the normal order of the universe is suspended, the barriers between the natural and the supernatural are temporarily removed, the sidh lies open and all divine beings and the spirits of the dead move freely among men and interfere sometimes violently, in their affairs” (Celtic Mythology, p. 127).

The Celtic priests who carried out the rituals in the open air were called Druids, members of pagan orders in Britain, Ireland and Gaul, who generally performed their rituals by offering sacrifices, usually of crops and animals, but sometimes of humans, in order to placate the gods; ensuring that the sun would return after the winter; and frightening away evil spirits. To the Celtics, the bonfire represented the sun and was used to aid the Druid in his fight with dark powers. The term bonfire comes from the words “bone fire,” literally meaning the bones

of sacrificed animals, sometimes human, were piled in a field with timber and set ablaze. All fires except those of the Druids were extinguished on Samhain and householders were levied a fee to relight their holy fire which burned at their altars. During the Festival of Samhain, fires would be lit which would burn all through the winter and sacrifices would be offered tothe gods on the fires. This practice of burning humans was stopped around 1600, and an effigy was sometimes burned instead.

 History Of Halloween:

The origin of Halloween is fascinating and anyone interested in finding out about thehistory of Halloween and where this American tradition was founded, will find the information in this article to be eye opening.

An Ancient Celebration:

October 31, Halloween, is one of the more popular holidays for children. What child wouldn’t want to dress up as a monster or fairy and score a bag of candy in the process?

 Blending of Paganism with Christianity:

When Christianity spread to parts of Europe, instead of trying to abolishthese pagan customs, people tried to introduce ideas which reflected a more Christian world-view. Halloween has since become a confusing mixture of traditions and practices from pagan cultures and Christian tradition. By A.D. 43, Romans had conquered the majority of Celtic territory. During their rule of the Celtic lands, Roman festivals were combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain. The Romans observed the holiday of Feralia,

intended to give rest and peace to the departed. Participants made sacrifices in honor of the dead, offered up prayers for them, and made oblations to them. Another festival was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain probably explains the tradition of “bobbing” for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.

As the influence of Christianity spread into Celtic lands, in the 7th century, Pope Boniface IV introduced All Saints’ Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs, to replace the pagan festival of the dead. It was observed on May 13. In 834, Gregory III moved All Saint’s Day from May 13 to Nov. 1 and for Christians, this became an opportunity for remembering before God all the saints who had died and all the dead in the Christian community. Oct. 31 thus became All Hallows’ Eve (‘hallow’ means ‘saint’). Sadly, though, many of the customs survived and were blended in with Christianity. Numerous folk customs connected with the pagan observances for the dead have survived to the present. In 1517, a monk named Martin Luther honored the faithful saints of the past by choosing All Saints Day (November 1) as the day to publicly charge the Church heirarchy with abandoning biblical faith. This became known as “Reformation Day,” a fitting celebration of the restoration the same biblical faith held by the saints throughout church history.

Trick-or-Treat?

Some trace the origins of present day “trick-or-treat” to Samhain, which was the supreme night of demonic jubilation. Spirits of the dead would rise out of their graves and wander the countryside, trying to return to the homes where they formerly lived. Frightened villagers tried to appease these wandering spirits by offering them gifts of fruit and nuts. They began the tradition of placing plates of the finest food and bits of treats that the household had to

offer on their doorsteps, as gifts, to appease the hunger of the ghostly wanderers. If not placated, villagers feared that the spirits would kill their flocks or destroy their property. The problem was… if the souls of dead loved ones could return that night, so could anything else, human or not, nice or not-so-nice. The only thing the superstitious people knew to do to protect themselves on such an occasion was to masquerade as one of the demonic hoard, and hopefully blend in unnoticed among them. Wearing masks and other disguises and blackening the face with soot were originally ways of hiding oneself from the spirits of the

dead who might be roaming around. This is the origin of Halloween masquerading as devils, imps, ogres, and other demonic creatures. Others trace “trick-or-treat” to a European custom called “souling”.

Beggars would go from village to village begging for “soul cakes” made out of squarepieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors. At the time, it was believed that the dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers could guarantee a soul’s passage to heaven.

In many parts of Britain and Ireland this night used to be known as ‘Mischief Night’, which meant that people were free to go around the village playing pranks and getting up to any kind of mischief without fear of being punished. Many of the different customs were taken to the United States by Irish and Scottish immigrants in the nineteenth century, and they developed into ‘trick or treat’.

 Halloween Comes to America

Traditional Halloween symbols (witches, black cats, pumpkins, candles, masks, parties and pranks) appeared in the U.S. during the late 1800’s. In 1848, millions of Irish emigrants poured into America as a result of the potato famine. With this sudden influx of people, the holiday of Druidism found its new home on alien shores. “Proudly Celtic, they called Halloween Oidche Shamhna (`Night of Samhain’), as their ancestors had, and kept the traditional observances” [Common Boundary, Sep./Oct. 1993, p. 31]. The Jack-o-lantern is the festival light for Halloween and is the ancient symbol of a damned soul. Originally the Irish would carve out turnips or beets as lanterns as representations of the souls of the dead orgoblins freed from the dead.

When the Irish emigrated to America they could not find many turnips to carve into Jack O’Lanterns but they did find an abundance of pumpkins. Pumpkins seemed to be a suitable substitute for the turnips and pumpkins have been an essential part of Halloween celebrations ever since. Pumpkins were cut with faces representing demons and was originally intended to frighten away evil spirits. It was said that if a demon or such were to encounter something as fiendish looking as themselves that they’d run away in terror, thus sparing the houses dwellers from the ravages of dark entities. They would have been carried around the village boundaries or left outside the home to burn through the night.

Bats, owls and other nocturnal animals, also popular symbols of Halloween, were originally feared because people believed that these creatures could communicate with the spirits of the dead. Black cats have religious origins as well. Black cats were considered to be reincarnated beings with the ability to divine the future. During the Middle Ages it was believed that witches could turn themselves into black cats. Thus when such a cat was seen, it was considered to be a witch in disguise. Witches and witchcraft are dominant themes of the

holiday. Witches generally believe themselves to be followers of an ancient religion, which goes back far beyond Christianity, and which is properly called ‘wicca’. Witches are really just one side of a modern revival of paganism – the following of pre-Christian nature religions, the attempt to return to worshipping ancient Norse, Greek or Celtic gods and goddesses. To witches, Halloween is a festival of the dead, and represents the “end and the beginning of the witches year. It marks the beginning of the death and destruction associated with winter. At this time the power of the underworld

is unleashed, and spirits are supposedly freed to roam about the earth; it is considered the best time to contact spirits. The apostle Paul said Witchcraft is one of the acts of the sinful nature and those who practice it will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:16-21; see also Revelation 22:15).

Divination:

The various activities traditional to Halloween are mostly associated with the

idea of obtaining good fortune and foretelling the future. Samhain was a time when it was customary for the pagans to use the occult practice of divination to determine the weather for the coming year, the crop expectations, and even who in the community would marry whom and in what order.

● The idea behind ducking, dooking or bobbing for apples seems to have been that snatching a bite from the apple enables the person to grasp good fortune. Unmarried people would attempt to take a bite out of an apple bobbing in a pail of water, or suspended on a string. The first person to do so was believed to be the next to marry.

● Samhain is a time for getting rid of weakness, as pagans once slaughtered weak animals which were unlikely to survive the winter. A common ritual calls for writing down weaknesses on a piece of paper or parchment, and tossing it into the fire.

● There used to be a custom of placing a stone in the hot ashes of the bonfire. If in

the morning a person found that the stone had been removed or had cracked, it was a sign of bad fortune. Nuts have been used for divination: whether they burned quietly or exploded indicated good or bad luck.

● Peeling an apple and throwing the peel over one’s shoulder was supposed to reveal the initial of one’s future spouse.

● One way of looking for omens of death was for people to visit churchyards, because the spirits of those who were going to die during the coming year were thought to walk around the churchyard during this night.

 Should Christians adopt such practices?

Can we borrow pagan customs and superstitions of ancient peoples and “Christianize” them?

As believers, we are called to “Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. [1 Thesalonians 5:21-22] Who can deny that virtually all of the symbols of Halloween are evil? Witches, monsters, ogres, vampires, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, devils and demons all portray evil. Christians are to “… have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” [Ephesians 5:11]

Is Halloween just another innocent holiday that doesn’t harm anyone? Is it really just childish fun? Vandalism and wanton disregard for the property of others is common on Halloween night. Even normally well-behaved children are driven by unseen forces to destructive behavior. Police officials everywhere report a great increase in such activities on Halloween. Worse yet are the horrifying accounts of poisoned candy and fruits booby-trapped with razor blades and needles. Such threats are so real that many hospitals offer free X-rays of Halloween treats in order to prevent children from being harmed. Who but Satan could inspire such monstrous actions? Should the church be compromised by accommodating itself to the culture?

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” [Romans 12:2]

“For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?” [2 Corinthians 6:14, 15]

When America and the world celebrates the Festival of Samhain and the powers of darkness by masquerading as evil creatures or decorating our homes, schools, businesses and churches with occult symbols, Satanic power is glorified. The sort of practices celebrated on Halloween are what defiled the ancient nations [see Leviticus 18:24-30]. The Israelites were warned against such practices when they entered the Promised Land,

“When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.” [Deuteronomy 18:9] Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. [Deuteronomy 18:10-14]

As an alternative to the celebration of evil and death, Christians should rather do what Christians are supposed to do every day and that is shine the light of Jesus Christ. We should emphasize the Christian influences and strive to make Hallow’s Eve a celebration of the acts of God through his people the saints. We should make it a day when acts of charity instead of vandalism and hatred abound. A day that emphasizes the light of Christ instead of the darkness of evil. A day when people meditate on the acts of Godly people instead of ghosts and goblins. While you may have participated “all in fun,” be assured, Halloween is serious business for Satanists and witches. Those who oppose Christ are known to organize on Halloween to observe satanic rituals, to cast spells, to oppose churches and families, to perform sacrilegious acts, and to even offer blood sacrifices to Satan. While some may say, “But we only do this in fun…we don’t practice witchcraft,” those things that represent Satan and his domain cannot be handled or emulated “for fun”. Such participation places you in

enemy and forbidden territory and that is dangerous ground.

Tom Sanguinet, former high priest in the Celtic tradition of Wicca (witchcraft) said “The modern holiday we call Halloween has its origins in the full moon closest to November 1, the witches’ New Year. It was a time when the “spirits” (demons) were supposed to be at their peak power and revisiting the earth planet.” He went on to say, “Halloween is purely and absolutely evil, and there is nothing we ever have or will do that would make it acceptable to the Lord Jesus.

As evil prevails, Americans have embraced an evil day of Satan, with the pranks of ‘would be’ hoodlums, combined with ‘demon faces’ on pumpkins, clothing of ‘death’ being worn, and calling it fun. When Christians participate in Halloween, it sends a message to children that witchcraft, demonism, Satanism, and the occult are something fun, entertaining and harmless.

Many years ago, C.S. Lewis wrote that one of Satan’s most deceptive tactics is to convince people that he doesn’t exist. Apparently he has done a good job in his deception. Sadly, many people think of the devil as no more than a symbol of evil: like Santa Claus, he is just a fictional symbol.

Many people today also do not think of witches as real people who practice magic, but simply as imaginary figures who represent the supernatural world and everything that is ‘spooky.’ Recognizing this pagan holiday gives the false impression that what is actually lethal is innocuous. Some children develop a fascination with the supernatural which leads them later into more sinister occult practices. It’s the spiritual equivalent of painting a loaded

gun to look like a toy and giving it to child to play with. It is the kind of celebration that encourages kids like the 16-yearold in Pearl, Mississippi who stabbed his mother to death in her sleep and then opened fire at his high school, killing two students and wounding seven. Authorities found this student along with at least six others involved in a small, avowedly satanic clique that calls itself “Kroth.” How some people can defend this kind of activity as just another innocent holiday that doesn’t harm anyone is beyond me.

Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. (John 3:19-20)

Acceptance of the Supernatural:

Central to Satan’s goals is the widespread acceptance of the supernatural, including the occult, on the part of North Americans, accompanied by a great revival of spiritism all over the world. Over the last 30 or so years, the occult has moved into the mainstream of America

– in television, movies, magazines, business, and various aspects of daily life. Movies, books, magazines and encyclopedias of the supernatural have abounded. Turn on your TV and hear from the ever-present “Psychic Friends” hotline, or see lead characters in TV shows meet their “spirit guide.” Entire bookstores devoted to the occult have become common.

Universities regularly offer courses on witchcraft and magic – usually the so called “white” variety. Myriads of mystical Eastern religions, bizarre and often demonic, have invaded North America and found in most cases an amazing responsiveness.

Indeed, Halloween has taken root in America. Americans spend $21 million on Halloween candies yearly second only to Christmas in total sales. Halloween is the Number 1 season for selling humorous greeting cards. In North America, some 25 million cards are sold annually. (Peter Smith, “By the Numbers,” The Toronto Star, 2002-OCT-27.) Halloween is the third-largest party occasion next to Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Increasingly the curriculum in many public schools is becoming a primer in occultism.

Impressions, a curriculum used in many school districts instructs teachers the magician used. Have each pair write another spell to reverse the first spell. Have them chant their spells.”

About 16,000 school districts use the Pumsey the Dragon curriculum, by Jill Anderson. Many of the relaxation techniques used are identical to those used in hypnosis. Another curriculum called Duso the Dolphin employs relaxation techniques and sends hypnotized youngsters off on guided fantasies to a place called Aquatron. Satanism has become a phenomena that crosses the city limit into the rural areas of our nation. It is reported there are some 6000 witches, and approximately 10 million people are involved in the occult. However, it is very difficult to establish how many actually participate. These individuals are involved in a wide variety of activities from simply casting spells to human sacrifice.

and students in how to cast spells. One teacher’s manual reads, “Tell the children that a magician has cast a spell on some children. Have them work in pairs to write the magic spell

The news wires carry story after story about young children being kidnapped, only tobe found later as victims of some bizarre ritualistic crime .As satantic involvement among our youth increases, we begin to see the primary goal of such activity. According to Scripture

(2 Cor. 4:4; Rev. 12:9), Satan’s goal is to deceive man by blinding him to the truth of the gospel and to receive worship for himself (Matt. 4:9; Isa. 14:12-14).

It has become clear that the primary goal is to alter an individual’s values and turn him against himself, his beliefs, family, God and society.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,

walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

Young satanists believe the strong will rule with Satan. Once an individual becomes involved, they often make a pact with Satan. They commit themselves to  a future date when they will take their own lives by suicide. They believe if they submit themselves to Satan in death, they will come back in another life as a stronger being and rule with him forever. According to recent statistics, fourteen young people a day take their own lives.

Recently, a California skateboard manufacturer used a package enclosure similar in appearance to a gospel tract to encourage purchasers to sell their souls to the devil. The brochure titled, “Let’s Make a Deal” has a smiley-faced devil who explains to Flame Boy what happened in heaven after he was banished: “First off, they set up a bunch of dumb

rules, and then they imposed a really strict dress code. I’l wager that people must be quite bored up there, but hey, that’s what they get for being good.” He contrasts this with, “Flame Boy, even a dimwit like you can see that hell is by far the best place to retire. Just look at all the fun to be had.” Children are asked to sign and return a contract, by which they give possession of their souls to the devil for eternity.

What’s wrong with Halloween?

It does not have even one single redeeming virtue. It is custom born out of pagan superstition. It is a demon-inspired, devil-glorifying, occult festival. It is an evening holy unto evil, death, and divination. The Scriptures tells us to “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” [1Thess. 5:22]

Wake up Christian! This is the night of evil and those who love the Lord JesusChrist should have nothing to do with it. We are all accountable for our choices and decisions. Ignorance is no excuse. The choice is up to you. Have you been involved in this satanic holiday? Do you struggle with giving it up because “it’s just fun” and an innocent

opportunity for children to dress up and collect candy? Don’t take my word for it. Let God show you what he would have you do. You might begin by praying the following:

Father in heaven I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ to confess that I’m a sinner. I’m sorry! Please forgive me. I believe with all my heart that Jesus Christ is Your Son and that You raised him from the dead. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that I might be saved. Each and everyday Father I turn my will and my life over to Your care, and may Your Holy Spirit lead and guide me in all the things I think , do and say. I’m Yours and You are mine. Father, please use me that I might help others come.
